Teacher Wellness & Self Care

At Profound Ladies, we recognize that BIPOC educators face unique challenges in their roles, often bearing the additional burdens of being cultural ambassadors, disciplinarians, and targets of microaggressions from colleagues, administrators, and sometimes even families. This “invisible tax” can lead to burnout, with studies showing that BIPOC teachers experience higher rates of stress and emotional exhaustion. As a result, nearly 50% of teachers of color leave the profession within their first five years, highlighting the urgent need for targeted support.
Our wellness packages are designed to cultivate resilience in educators, providing them with essential resources to navigate these challenges effectively. Our wellness packages encompass a range of resources and activities aimed at promoting the emotional and mental well-being of our educators. These packages include:

Throughout the years, Profound Ladies has grown significantly, transitioning from a local initiative to a national movement, impacting educators across 26 states. With the launch of the Profound Leaders program and the T.E.A.C.H. portal, we continue to develop innovative solutions aimed at increasing access and opportunities for BIPOC educators and their students. We believe that representation matters, and our work is driven by the understanding that diverse educators are crucial to shaping a more equitable education system.

Mindfulness and Stress Management Workshops:

Educators participate in workshops focused on mindfulness practices and stress reduction techniques. These sessions empower them to develop coping strategies that enhance their resilience and overall well-being.

Self-Care Kits:

Each package includes curated self-care kits filled with items that encourage relaxation and self-reflection, such as journals, calming teas, and wellness tools. These small gestures serve as tangible reminders that their experiences are validated and that they have the right to teach without barriers.

Peer Support and Coaching:

Our wellness packages facilitate peer support circles where educators can share their experiences, challenges, and triumphs in a safe and supportive environment. These circles foster a sense of community and belonging, allowing educators to feel seen, heard, and valued in their full humanity.

Professional Development on Resilience:

We offer training sessions focused on building resilience and addressing the specific challenges faced by BIPOC educators. These sessions provide valuable insights and tools to navigate the complexities of their roles effectively.

Validation of Experiences

Our wellness packages are more than just resources; they are affirmations of the dignity and worth of BIPOC educators. By acknowledging the additional burdens they carry and providing support tailored to their needs, we aim to create an environment where educators can thrive without feeling overwhelmed by external pressures.

In a system that often overlooks the humanity of teachers of color, our wellness packages serve as crucial interventions to ensure they feel seen, heard, and valued. We believe that when educators are supported in their well-being, they are better equipped to serve their students and communities, ultimately fostering a more equitable education system for all.

Our Values

Love

Love is liberation. Love creates space for belonging through connection, vulnerability, and grace. As we work to doula new futures for children, we let love’s patience, acceptance and accountability cover us, our spirits, and our work.

Light

We light the path for authenticity and inclusivity. Doing so is a daily commitment to reject the messages of white supremacy and be ourselves, unapologetically.

Learning

Reflection & self-awareness is learning in action. It is the belief, despite all odds, that a more loving and just world is possible, and it starts with our relationship to ourselves. We fight the status quo that conflates growth with competition and comparison.

Legacy

We believe our legacy is in servant leadership. It is the debt we pay for occupying a space in time. Our desire to lead with servitude serves to build a legacy that supersedes any individualistic contributions.
